The Sakapulteko (also spelled Sakapultek, Sacapulteco, Sacapulteko or Sakapultecos) are an indigenous Maya people group who primarily reside in the municipality of Sacapulas in the department of Quiché, Guatemala. They are also found in Chinique and Cunén.
They are descendants of the ancient Maya civilization that flourished in the Guatemalan highlands.
- Their language, Sakapulteko, is a Mayan language that belongs to the K'iche' branch of the Mayan language family. Sakapulteko is closely related to other K'iche' languages, such as K'iche' and Tz'utujil. The population is estimated to be around 50,000 individuals.
- Despite these challenges, the Sakapulteko have demonstrated remarkable resilience in preserving their cultural traditions, language, and identity.
