The Q'anjob'al (also known as Qanjobal or Kanjobal) are an indigenous Maya people who primarily reside in the northwestern region of Guatemala, near the border with Mexico. They are one of the 22 officially recognized indigenous Maya groups in Guatemala, believed to be descendants of the ancient Maya civilization that flourished in the region.
- The Kanjobal population is estimated to be around 300,000 individuals, living in Huehuetenango. Some prominent Kanjobal communities include San Pedro Soloma, San Miguel Acatán, Barillas and Santa Eulalia.
- In recent decades, many Kanjobal have migrated to other cities or to the United States in search of economic opportunities.
- However, many Kanjobal communities continue to preserve their cultural heritage and language, adapting to changing social and economic conditions.
