The Poqomchi' (also spelled Poqomchí, Pocomchi and Pocomchi') are an indigenous Maya ethnic group located in the central highlands of Guatemala.
- Historically, the Poqomchi' homeland has been centered in the departments of Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz in central Guatemala. Their traditional territory encompasses the Cuchumatanes mountain range, and they share their territory with the Q'eqchi'.
-The current Poqomchi' population is around 200,000 people. They maintain a distinct cultural identity, traditional dress, and agricultural practices. Archaeologically, the Poqomchi' region was part of the Classic and Postclassic Maya civilization, with sites like Saqbichil and Raxruha Viejo located within their ancestral lands.
- In recent decades, the Poqomchi' have been active in advocating for the preservation of their indigenous language, traditions, and rights addressing the realities of a changing social and economic climate.
